Event Description :Marine Life Around the Whitsunday IslandsThe Whitsundays are teeming with marine life, making them a dream destination for ocean lovers. During your stay at Toscana Village Resort in Airlie Beach, keep an eye out for some of the region’s most iconic sea creatures. Clownfish Made famous by Finding Nemo, Clownfish are a favourite among visitors. These brightly coloured fish, usually orange with white stripes, live in the warm waters around the Whitsundays. With around 30 species found in the region, they’re common but very territorial — so admire them, but give them space! Dugongs (Sea Cows) Gentle and slow-moving, Dugongs are large marine mammals closely related to manatees. Growing up to 3 metres long and weighing around 400kg, they feed on seagrass and are often spotted in shallow waters near Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour, and Hydeaway Bay. Despite their size, these creatures are peaceful and graceful. Humpback Whales Each year between June and September, Humpback Whales migrate to the Whitsundays to give birth in its calm, warm waters. These giants can reach up to 18 metres in length and weigh over 40 tonnes. Each whale has a unique tail pattern, like a fingerprint, helping researchers identify them. Seeing these magnificent animals up close is truly unforgettable. These are just a few of the amazing marine species you may encounter. With such natural wonders on your doorstep, a stay at Toscana Village Resort puts you in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef’s vibrant marine world. |
